Every Friday night in January and February was filled with tension... excitement... GGRRing... laughter...tears...fouls... and... hugs.
It was Young Women's Basketball!! Our ward is quite large (I think we have 24 Beehives), and so the Basketball teams were split into 2. The slightly older, more experienced girls (in other words the girls who played on last years YW basketball team)and the I've seen a basketball, but not sure what to do with it, team. Kate was on the first team, and Afton (the Friday after she turned 12, with only 1 game left and then the stake tournament), was on the second team.
The girls got the chance to play against each other. It was fun to watch, they both did a great job!!
Kate's team clobbered every single team in our stake, and I do mean clobbbered them. Afton's team got better at each game.
Kate's team always played with real heart, and were also very aggressive.
They won the stake tournament!!! Afton's team came in 3rd, which I thought was pretty good.
The older girls then went on to the Regional Tournament, they played round robbin games on Thursday night, where they played just 5 minute halves, and had a 2 minute half time. They played for points, to be seeded for the tournament. You should have seen those girls play!! They really do play with heart, and BODIES!! They really wanted to win.
Friday night (sad to say, but I missed, because I went to Scrap Camp), but got text updates, when I had cell coverage), the girls won their two games, and then came Saturday morning. "The refs were against them", was all I heard, and they ended up losing the game, and got 3rd place in Regions! I thought they did great. Oldest member on their team is 14, and they sure played against a lot of Laurels. But WAY TO GO GIRLS!!! Glad I got watch you... every Friday night!! Can't wait for next year!!
Let's call this one "The Rest of 2016"
