Wow! We are now not only going to be a rockin' family, but a blogging family as well. A lot has been happening latley, and we thought that this would be a fun way to let you all know about everything!
To get started, today was a big day for little Snickerdoodle, Joss, she got her cast off! Saturday, October 18th, AfteyLou and I went to a Mom and Me at the church, KateyKat, was babysitting for someone else, and Papa Bear, Dill Pickles and Snickerdoodles were left at home. Papa Bear was being super sweet, and was working on the laundry in the bedroom (and watching tv), when he heard an "OW!!". He went to see what happened, and saw an overturned laundry basket at the bottom of the stairs, with a little girl right by it. She came up the stairs, and Papa Bear, being as smart as he is, saw that her arm was broken. He called my cell phone at the church, and I didn't hear it, so he called my friend, told her what happened and asked her to run to the church and tell me that he was on the way to the hospital. When she came, I thought she was joking! She had to convince me she was serious, and I grabbed my purse, and left. She volunteered to take Dill Pickles who was at the Hospital, and AfteyLou to her house. I ran in and saw a hurt little girl, but not one who was crying or anything. Before we knew it, they were asking us the last time she ate, and then telling us she had to have surgery to re-set her arm. We were kind of in shock, things didn't really happen in the right order, but I am grateful, because the surgeon was already in the hospital, saw her x-rays, and had scheduled the surgery, before we even knew she needed it.
They took her back to get ready for surgery, we cut off her shirt, so she wouldn't have to move her arm, and the anastesiologist came in, and gave her the medicine to put her asleep. The surgeon, came by and told us that it should only take about 20 minutes, that they would reduce her arm, and then she would be finished. They were however cautious, and had someone standing by to suck out her lungs if she aspirated. He told us that was the most dangerous thing about the whole procedure.
The surgeon, about 45 minutes later, finally came in and told us that things went great, and he showed us an "after" x-ray, and then we said, "can we see a before x-ray?".
He brought it back, and then we finally saw what all the fuss was about, her bone in her arm looked as if it had been snapped in half, which caused another bone to move, and almost stick out. But the "after" x-ray, was so much better!
We were left again in the waiting room, and going crazy because we just wanted to see our little girl, and be with her as she recovered, the Doctor told us that they don't like parents in with the patients, because sometimes they cry, as they are coming to, which I thought, no wonder! They are all by themselves, with no one they no around them, in a strange place.
The nurses came by the waiting room, and they could tell that we weren't going to wait any longer, so they let us be by her during the recovery. She was asleep, and then she slowly woke up, to us holding her little hand, and smiling at her, and she was fine. No tears. The nurse was amazed, amazed at how well she was reovering, amazed she wasn't crying. She was ready to let us go home and then...
